OCTOBER 2018: CURRENTLY

Posted by Carolyn on October 31, 2018 Leave a Comment

reading Sky in the Deep, by Adrienne Young.

listening to Theodosia Reprise, by Sara Bareilles.

lighting all the beeswax candles.

diffusing all the cozy oils.

feeling the thinning of the veil.

seeing the change of the seasons.

walking the girls to the bus stop before the sun rises.

loving our new framed artwork by Sarah Guthu.

feeling less sad about our old traditions that are no longer possible.

enjoying seeing the girls’ new relationship as school friends as well as sisters.

questioning some of my choices lately.

putting faith into the process.

dedicating to our new budget.

making big plans that make it worthwhile.

preparing to listen to all the Christmas music starting tomorrow.

wishing it was acceptable to get a tree on November first.

knowing it would last since we’d cut it down, fresh.

wondering why we have to arbitrarily wait until after Thanksgiving.

AUGUST 2018: CURRENTLY

Posted by Carolyn on August 17, 2018 Leave a Comment

reading Two Moons in August by Martha Brooks. Again.

listening to my Autumn spotify playlist.

watching “The Americans.”

loving the slightly cooler days.

thinking that this is what summer *should* feel like.

gazing at the clear blue sky, between the smoky hazy days that are our new summer reality.

wishing that wasn’t our new reality.

riding one of those rental bike things between campus and downtown.

remembering how great it feels to have the warm summer wind in your face.

spending a lot of time at work, preparing for big things.

feeling so happy that I get to work with people who are so awesome.

sensing that exciting tug toward autumn and school and colder weather.

getting stuff done.

getting more stuff planned.

JUNE 2018: CURRENTLY

Posted by Carolyn on June 21, 2018 Leave a Comment

reading The Book of Essie  by Meghan MacLean Weir.

looking at a huge stack of books to catch up on.

listening to The Band’s Visit.

wishing I’d seen it when I was in New York.

relishing in the fact that I’m on summer vacation.

not regretting the fact that I worked full time+ this spring.

loving that I can focus on my one job and my kids for a while.

planning some small trips around Oregon this summer.

spending as much time in our back yard as possible.

adoring the new setup out there.

being excited that Jesse is on vacation next week!

holding my kids close to me.

raging about the fact that so many children aren’t with their families.

calling representatives daily.

wishing there was more I could do.

knowing that there is.

trying to find it.

NOVEMBER 2017: CURRENTLY

Posted by Carolyn on November 29, 2017 Leave a Comment

reading Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang.

listening to Christmas music (obviously).

loving our house in its twinkle-light-glow.

watching the houses around us pop their Christmas lights up.

dreaming up some fun new changes.

waiting.

looking at all the Christmas books with the girls.

remembering all the memories of childhood holidays.

slowing down to get ready for Advent.

walking in the rain with friends, whenever I can.

getting used to our new normals with the changes this year.

thinking of new ways to get involved and resist.

regretting that my gung-ho attitude that was kindled last November has dwindled.

knowing that it’s not too late to change.

understanding that something has to change.

gazing at the sky.

determining whether or not those are snow clouds (they’re not… yet).

getting ready for a fun filled Christmastime.

hoping.

OCTOBER 2017: CURRENTLY

Posted by Carolyn on October 19, 2017 Leave a Comment

reading Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.  Again.

listening to my Autumn playlist and a little bit of Christmas.

watching “The Good Place” with Jesse.

waiting patiently for my December Daily box to arrive.

feeling inspired to create.

waiting for the motivation to create.

missing our friend Jake.

helping.

working my way through the stages of grief and back again.

holding our friends in my heart all the time.

wanting to change.

wondering how grief works and how people come out on the other side.

having faith that this has been enough for one year.

missing Bennett.

wishing we could all see what he would be doing these days.

looking forward.

loving the cozy season that is full of colors and rain.

slowing down in preparation of Advent.

practicing gratitude because I can’t figure out any other way to approach life these days.

SEPTEMBER 2017: CURRENTLY

Posted by Carolyn on September 18, 2017 Leave a Comment

reading Louisa Meets Bear.  Kind of.

listening to my Spotify Autumn playlist.

eating lots of apples from our apple picking adventure (pictured above).

looking at Christmas albums and waiting.

wanting to start #30daysofgratitude right now.

seeing leaves changing colors.

wearing sweaters and pants.

loving the tiny drops of rain outside.

breathing in the cool, clean, smoke-free air.

missing Alma while she’s at school all day.

enjoying so much alone time with Harriet.

subbing later this week.

looking forward to it.

working on developing a rhythm to our days in our new normal.

feeling sad that we had to leave our old preschool and our old normal.

(still) fuming about the fact that I was dragged into the bullshit.

wanting to forgive, but finding it hard.

trying to focus on where we are now, and telling myself that different doesn’t equal bad.

having faith that it will all work out.

focusing on the good things – which are actually quite plentiful.

moving on.

AUGUST 2017: CURRENTLY

Posted by Carolyn on August 10, 2017 Leave a Comment

reading Wonder by Raquel J. Palacio.

listening to lots of different things.

eating away from home too much.

planning a night out.

thinking there might be karaoke and dancing.

getting caught up on Blaugust Vlaugust August.

trying to motivate myself to sew.

watching the girls pretend that it’s snowing.

cleaning the house.

feeling discouraged that it instantly gets messy again.

wanting to just give up.

sweating.

wishing for rain.

choking in all the smoke from the fires.

wanting to see the eclipse.

worrying that it won’t work out.

weighing all the different ways we could get to the path of totality.

hoping our world leaders keep their shit together and don’t blow us all up.

reading The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss.

hearing rumors that his next book is coming out this fall.

checking his website and seeing no indication of this being true.

listening to Evynne’s cover of “No One Else”on repeat.

planning lots of things for myself and for the internet.

diffusing Christmas Spirit because it’s July and it’s too hot.

not caring what anyone has to say about it.

feeling disjointed about our summer routine.

wanting to get into a groove that is creative, fun, relaxed, and without whines.

knowing that it’s because I just want it to be autumn already.

eating not at home as much as feels right.

camping.

looking for rainclouds on the horizons.

not seeing any.

watching Game of Thrones and loving every new episode.

canning as much as I can can.

seeing friends.

playing in parks.

setting goals.
