Posted by Carolyn on April 17, 2017 Leave a Comment

reading nothing.

starting All the Ugly and Wonderful Things just as soon as I pick it up from the library.

training to be a runner.

completing week two of the Couch to 5k program this week.

wondering how I’ll keep up with the training when the grass pollen hits.

blowing my nose already.

listening to my Couch to 5k playlist on Spotify, even when I’m not running.

looking at all the beautiful springtime things.

noticing how late everything is to bloom this year.

feeling very uninspired to finish all my sewing projects.

trying to push myself to finish the two quilts I have started.

feeling good about the connections I’m making with people.

oiling all day everyday.

finding new ways to use my oils.

benefiting so much more than I thought I would.

planning a big blog push for May.

working with a good friend on some collaborations.

worrying.

hoping.

reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

knowing it would be so much better live, or in a fully written book.

wishing I could fly to London with tickets to the play in my hand.

listening to my Autumn Playlist on Spotify.

feeling nostalgic, which is apparently my Autumn mood.

wanting to be more creative, more consistently.

cutting all the felt into all the shapes and letters.

preparing to sell felt things at a bazaar next month.

watching all the Friends reruns on Netflix.

getting excited for Halloween.

looking forward to November, when I practice 30 Days of Gratitude.

thinking that I might start a few days early.

feeling like we all need more gratitude in our lives right now.

imploring that we can just vote early and get this shit-show over with.

reading and watching way too much about the election.

fearing the worst.

hoping for the best.

enjoying the colorful days and dark nights.

stopping to watch the leaves.

choosing to see the beauty.

reminding myself that playing with the kids is what I should be doing.

going outside.

working full time for the first time in a long time.

missing the kids.

knowing that this is just a long-term sub job that will be over this summer.

realizing that it’s good to miss the kids sometimes.

thinking it will be fun to have the whole summer with the kids.

listening to “Manhattan” when I want to write.

practicing “Baba Yetu,” all the time, whether I want to or not, because it’s always stuck in my head.

loving that I will get to sing “Baby Yetu” with the kids on mother’s day at church.

cracking up whenever Harriet requests “Baba Detu” because it’s awesome that she can say it, and sings along.

planning ways to be more productive and creative in May.

committing to some new goals.

using oils everyday.

wanting to use more oils everyday.

reading Twelfth Night at school, and Cinder at home.

MARCH 2016: CURRENTLY

Posted by Carolyn on March 8, 2016 Leave a Comment

Listening to Hamilton over and over and over again.  Can I please teleport to New York for one night with some tickets in my hand?

Reading Harry Potter for the millionth time.

Using my new essential oils and loving them.

Enjoying all the flowers in all my views.

Working more these days, thanks to all the illness going around.

Fighting all the illnesses going around.

Comforting the girls as they fight illnesses and smash their fingers in doors.

Trying to be more calm, patient, and present.

Realizing that I only have a little time left of having the girls at home with me.

Pondering how I can avoid putting my kids into kindergarten classes with 29 other kids.

Wishing the schools were in a better situation.

Breathing.

October 2015: Currently

Posted by Carolyn on October 1, 2015 Leave a Comment

reading Love, Nina by Nina Stibbe for book club this weekend.  It’s funny, but I’m having a hard time figuring out if there’s a point to it.

walking all over while the girls are in school.

enjoying that I’ve had a couple weeks without work, while the girls are in school.

smiling at every single tree that is changing color.

kicking piles of leaves on sidewalks.  Not the ones that are raked and intentional, that would be mean.

feeling the excitement and goodness that comes to the U of O campus along with the throngs of backpacked students.

eating lots of healthy veggies and too many cashews.

saying no to unhealthy food and not regretting these decisions.

getting a clean bill of dental health from my dentist.

saying I will definitely floss.

knowing I probably won’t.

watching the third season of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.

preparing (mostly mentally) for my first sub job of the year next week.

trying to remember all my tricks and strategies for 6th graders.

planning an anniversary trip and party in the next couple months.

realizing I need to going on those plans!

loving the sorter days, longer shadows, changing leaves, and chilly air.

september 2015 : currently

Posted by Carolyn on September 8, 2015 Leave a Comment

[I’ve been thinking about blogging these past few days, and I’ve come to some conclusions. I used to think that everything had to be new and unique.  I’ve changed my mind.  There are blogs I read who do the same things each month.  Every month, Elise does a currently blog, where she shares what she’s currently doing.  It’s full of verbs and gives a glimpse into her life.  I love this, but haven’t wanted to be a copy-cat.  I finally decided that it’s okay to be a copy-cat.  I love the feature, and I feel like it will be something to look back on over the years.  So here’s my first – september 2015 currently.] AndThenThey Autumn Presentwaiting for Autumn to come for reals.

knowing we will get some hot days that will knock me down before Autumn comes for reals.

admitting that I know that Autumn doesn’t need to be capitalized, but standing my assertion that it deserves it.

eating lots of veggies, meat, and fruit for our first Whole30.

feeling like I have a horrible hangover for days on end.

wondering what on earth I’ve been putting in my body that when I stop eating it, it can make me feel so horrible.

hoping it will all be worth it in the end of the 30 days.

knowing that we will definitely be making long term changes to our diet, just based on the past 8 days of Whole30.

reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.

building myself up to start setting my alarm earlier so I can get up and have a productive, energizing morning routine.

talking myself out of setting my alarm earlier every single night.

marveling at how perfectly the daily devotions in Savor are matching up with what I need to hear.

wishing I have more time in the mornings to really thinking about and work with each devotion (see above).

listening to a most perfect mix of Autumn music that is a Sara Barielles/ Nickel Creek Pandora station.

singing along to Alma’s CDs, even when she’s not in the car.

anticipating the day in a little under a week when both my girls are in school.

running out of ideas to keep all three of us busy and entertained.

feeling tired and ragged and worn out. It’s been a long summer.

loving these days of golden sunlight, fluffy clouds, crisp breezes, and rain showers.

laughing all day at Harriet’s sweet pouts, Alma’s antics, and getting to share it all with Jesse.

hearing all sorts of sad on NPR.

wanting to do something.

praying.
